Homemade cleaning solutions DIY

-

In Europe, the so-called “green” household cleaner industry has grown into a significant market. We strive diligently to adopt these products, motivated by a desire to protect our families from dangerous toxins. However, the uncertainties surrounding these products can be just as harmful as the chemicals we are trying to escape. In contrast, homemade cleaning solutions offer a harmless and environmentally friendly alternative.

The use of any of these eco-conscious sprays and other products does not necessarily harm our health. However, it’s rare that we use a single product to remove dirt, and the unexplored consequences of mixing agents can be fatal.

Would you use the same cleaning solution for a toilet as for wiping a kitchen surface? I presume not. According to the National Environment Commission, the use of volatile organic compounds to enhance the performance of these natural products can disrupt neurological functions and cause respiratory irritation, all depending on the degree of exposure. The regulation concerning these cleaning agents is inadequate or non-existent, resulting in manipulation or outright lies when labeling ingredients.

Homemade cleaning solutions recipe

We present to you a recipe for an effective and completely non-toxic homemade cleaning solution that you can prepare at home. Besides offering potential savings, this recipe could be key in protecting your family’s health from potential serious issues. All you need is a glass jar, white distilled vinegar, and citrus peels. You can use orange, lime, or lemon peels.

The preparation is very simple, once you collect enough citrus peels, you can start the preparation. This is an ideal way to incorporate more citrus into your morning smoothies.

The magic in the jar can begin

Fill the glass jar with citrus peels, then pour white distilled vinegar over it until it is completely covering the peels. Seal the lid tightly and let it sit for up to three weeks. This colorful arrangement can even serve as an attractive centerpiece and spark interesting conversations during evening gatherings.

Drain and strain the liquid from the peels, making sure to remove all solid parts. The liquid you obtain is a very powerful completely natural cleaning solution that you can dilute in a 1:1 ratio with water and place in a spray bottle. Start cleaning! It can be applied to almost any surface, except marble.

Just think about all the antibacterial hand gels and soaps that flood the shelves of your local supermarket. Next time you go shopping, visit the fruit and vegetable section in search of your new bathroom cleaning solution!
